Among them was Carm\u00e9n\u00e8re which truly blossomed under Chilean weather.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3147 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"cimg6137_\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">I first tasted Carm\u00e9n\u00e8re wine at <a href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Casas del Bosque<\/a>, in Casablanca, in a room that is sure to awaken all your senses! <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">A beautiful space drenched in sunlight overseeing the garden, with\u00a0 a d\u00e9cor based on the flavours and references from the wine itself &#8211;\u00a0from pictures of peppers and blueberries, to jars filled with cinnamon sticks or coffee beans, the room will inspire you to dig deeper into your memories of scent and smell and discover the differences between the wines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3146 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"cimg6101_\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3145 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"cimg6065_\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">I am very glad I entered <a href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vi\u00f1a Emiliana<\/a> by mistake, also in Casablanca! This vineyard is entirely devoted to pure and organic wine making using biodynamic agriculture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">Under the premise that the earth provides for all our agricultural needs, here you will find an intricate ecosystem where chickens, alpacas, bees, herbs and, of course, people, live in harmony, each with their own role to play. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">And the result is a truly wonderful wine!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3143 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"20150119_142932_\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3151 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"_cimg6131\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">They say the Mapuche people, indigenous to Chile, have been producing wine for over 100 years in \u2018tinajas\u2019, in a similar fashion to Portuguese &#8216;vinho da talha&#8217; (wine made using large clay pots without resorting to chemicals). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">The country owes the recovery of such a traditional wine making technique to Vi\u00f1a de Martino in the island of Maipo, where the \u2018tinajas\u2019 were actually bought from the current Mapuche people, who use them today as decorative items, oblivious to the fact they were used by their ancestors to vinify Chilean grapes. Thus, De Martino stands for truthful wine making without the use of any \u2018cover ups\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3152 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"_cimg6270\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3140 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"cimg6295_\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">A wine trip to Chile would not be complete without a visit to the great Concha y Toro. Known for being the second largest vineyard in the world, Concha y Toro is also one of the most visited estates, thanks to its proximity to Santiago. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">In the Old\u00a0Cellar, dark and damp, I listened to the story of Casillero del Diablo &#8211;\u00a0after a robbery at his cellar, Don Melchor, the first owner and winemaker, started the rumour there was a demon guarding his barrels at night. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"color_13\">A lie, told many times, soon becomes an accepted truth, and from that day on, nobody dared to trespass Don Melchor\u2019s property without his permission.
